MADELYN POTTS

I am currently a grade 11 student at Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver, BC and have been playing field hockey for the past eight years. I have represented my country as a member of Canada’s Junior National Team, my province as a member of British Columbia’s Provincial Team at the Canadian National Championships and my club and school in regional competitions throughout the province. Having played the majority of my career as both a midfielder and defender, I possess strong hockey fundamentals.

Defensively, I strive to apply pressure by quickly closing down space and limiting the attackers’ options while maintaining proper angles and distance and gaining possession with the use of well-timed jab and block tackles. I am comfortable playing both a zone and man-to-man defence and clearly communicate with my teammates to ensure we maintain proper structure both outside and inside the D.

Offensively, my strongest assets are my speed, composure and ability to distribute the ball with forceful sweeps and slap passes while minimizing turnovers. Playing heads up hockey, I try to find open spaces for myself and my teammates in order to attack the opposition.

Academically, I have excelled in the classroom and currently have an interest in business, entrepreneurship and medicine. I take great pride in my academic endeavours and have always prioritized my studies. I look forward to pushing my limits, actively contributing and having a positive impact while on campus.
